Dating back to 1902, this heirloom is a hit because it ripens far earlier than other varieties. It's fruits are a dark-purple, with a globe growing around 6 by 5 inches. The flesh is smooth and creamy in color. Start seeds indoors, waiting 10 weeks until transplant. Plant in rows 3 feet apart, with 2 feet between plants. They need warmth and sunshine.
